US regions travel brochure: a 4th grade geography project
What it is: a 4th grade geography project where groups research one region of the United States (Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, West) and make a folded travel brochure with its states, landforms, climate, resources and one cultural tradition.
Time: about 45 minutes. Grade: 4th grade.
Materials: a US regions map, books or printed fact pages for each region, letter-size paper folded in thirds, colored pencils, and a brochure checklist.
- Show a real travel brochure. Ask: "What makes you want to visit a place?"
- Assign one region per group and show it on the map.
- Groups collect 4 key facts: states, landforms, climate and resources, plus one tradition or festival.
- They plan the 6 panels of the brochure, then write and illustrate each panel.
- Groups present their brochure in 2 minutes, and the class compares regions on a chart.
Differentiation: students who need support complete 3 panels with fact frames. Students who are ready add a short itinerary for a 3-day trip. English learners can label a map panel with key words and pictures.
Quick check: ask a student to name one landform and one resource from their region and explain how they are connected.
Save this activity to your library so it is ready when you need it.
