Key words
- verbal — A word made from a verb that acts as a noun, adjective or adverb instead of a verb
- gerund — An -ing verbal that acts as a noun: Swimming is fun.
- participle — A verbal, often ending in -ing or -ed, that acts as an adjective: the swimming dog, the broken vase
- infinitive — To plus a verb, acting as a noun, adjective or adverb: I want to swim.
- verbal phrase — A verbal plus its modifiers or objects, such as baking bread or to finish the race
