“Today you become a pronoun detective. By the end, you will be able to prove which pronoun is right, not just guess.”
Choose the correct pronoun: The librarian helped Amir and (I / me) find the atlas.
Answer: me. Cover up Amir and: The librarian helped me. Me is objective because it receives the action of helped.
Saying "and I" always sounds more polite and correct, so it should be used everywhere.
Show that "and I" is only correct in the subject. Use the cover-up trick on "between you and I": "between I" is wrong, so it must be "between you and me."
Many adults say "between you and I," so do not worry if it sounds natural to your student. Focus on the cover-up trick as a reliable test rather than on what sounds right.
