UpOnly Learning
Every subject in English, Spanish and Portuguese, with answer keys in every book.
Great for: Bilingual families and parents who want all subjects in one place.
A friendly guide for parents, teachers and tutors
Whether you homeschool, want extra practice after school, plan summer learning, teach a class or tutor, there are wonderful publishers to help, and each one does something well. We put the facts side by side so you can find what fits your student, your budget and your home language.
This page is our opinion, based on research by the UpOnly Learning team with the help of advanced AI research tools. Every figure comes from each publisher's own website or a major retailer, with the source listed at the bottom. Prices and details change, so please check the publisher's site before you buy.
Parents and teachers ask us how UpOnly compares with other workbooks and curriculum. Rather than just tell you we're great, we thought it would be more useful to show the whole picture, including the many excellent publishers families already love.
We looked at ten publishers that families, teachers and tutors commonly use for kindergarten to grade 5. For each one we checked the subjects and grades offered, the languages, whether books are printable at home, whether answer keys are included, typical page counts, prices and digital extras such as flashcards. We only used figures we could find on the publisher's own website or a major retailer, and every source is listed at the bottom of this page. When a publisher doesn't publish a figure, we wrote "Not listed" instead of estimating.
It is not a ranking. Every publisher here helps families teach, and the right choice depends on your student and your home.
If your family speaks Spanish or Portuguese at home, or you want your student to keep up in two languages, look for editions in those languages.
Some publishers focus on one subject, usually math, and do it in depth. Others cover every subject so you can teach a whole grade from one place.
Printable PDFs arrive instantly and can be printed again for practice. Printed books and kits come ready to use, with no printer needed.
Full-year programs teach every lesson in order. Practice workbooks are shorter and fit alongside any curriculum.
Some publishers include them in every book; others sell them separately or put them in a teacher's edition.
Options range from free PDFs and a few dollars per workbook to complete kits that cost several hundred dollars per grade.

UpOnly makes printable workbooks for kindergarten to grade 5 in eight subjects: math, reading, English and writing, science, history and social studies, life skills, entrepreneurship and business thinking, and psychology for kids. Every book comes in English, Spanish and Portuguese, which makes UpOnly a natural fit for bilingual families and for students learning a second language. Each topic follows the same research-based steps: a quick check of what the student knows, a lesson with worked examples, guided and independent practice, and a final check, with an answer key in every book. A Grade 3 bundle includes about 1,500 pages and close to 7,000 practice questions. Families can print as many copies as their household needs, try a free sample of every book first, and practice math facts and the vocabulary of every subject with interactive flashcards that read every card aloud. Members also earn reward points for lessons and flashcard practice.

You don't have to spend a lot to teach well. A few ways families keep costs down:
If your family learns in Spanish or Portuguese, or you want your student to keep up in two languages, here is what we found:
We didn't find other K–5 programs offering every subject in Spanish or Portuguese. If you know of one, tell us and we'll add it.

What you get:
Many families combine publishers, and that's a great way to teach. A few combinations parents use:
Use whatever helps your student most.
Both are well-loved math programs. Math Mammoth is mastery-based, written to the student with clear explanations, and sold as a PDF for $42.50 a grade or in print. Singapore Math (Dimensions Math or Primary Mathematics) teaches through objects, then pictures, then numbers, and is sold as printed sets, such as Dimensions Math Grade 3 for $152 with teacher's guides. Many families choose by teaching style and budget.
Both are published by Carson Dellosa. Spectrum workbooks are grade-level practice books across many subjects, about $10 to $15 each. Evan-Moor focuses on short daily practice, a few minutes a day, with answers usually in a separate teacher's edition.
Kumon workbooks build speed and accuracy in small steps, which many families find helpful for math facts and early skills. They work well alongside a curriculum that teaches the ideas behind the practice.
It depends on your student and how you like to teach. A full program teaches every lesson in order, while practice workbooks add review. Try free samples first: UpOnly has one for every book, and The Good and the Beautiful offers free PDFs of its language arts and math courses.

UpOnly's interactive flashcards for times tables, division, and Reading, Science and Social Studies words (grades 1 to 5) flip with a tap and read every card aloud in English, Spanish or Portuguese, with 10 free cards in every deck. Rules for homeschooling are set by each state, so please check your state's requirements. Workbook publishers, including UpOnly, are publishers of learning materials, not schools or accrediting bodies.
Some publishers include faith content: BJU Press is Bible-integrated, and Timberdoodle offers both religious and nonreligious kits. UpOnly's workbooks are not religious: the material is neutral and focused on the curriculum standards each subject follows, such as Common Core for math and reading and the Next Generation Science Standards for science, so families of any background can use them. Check each publisher's site to see its approach.
Many students do well with short lessons, clear steps and frequent practice. Every student is different, so if you suspect a learning difference, a qualified educator or specialist can help you choose.
Absolutely. Many families use one publisher for math and another for reading, science or a second language. Use whatever helps your student most.
