Picture books to read and hear Grades K–6

Short chapter books with a painted picture on every page. Read together, let your student read alone, or press the ear to hear a book aloud. Every book is also a story in our typing game.

Why it works: reading books together is linked to language growth and to reading later on. See the research

Questions from parents

Are these books free?

Beach Day is free from the cover to The End. Every other book has its cover and first two chapters free, and members read every book in full. No ads.

Can the books be read aloud?

Yes. Every chapter has an ear button, and every book has a Read the whole story button. Your browser reads the text aloud in a calm voice, with nothing to install.

What ages are the books for?

Students 5 to 12. Younger students enjoy hearing them read aloud, early readers can read a chapter at a time, and older students read them alone or type them in our typing game.
