Chapter 1Smoky Mountain Road
The little van rolls into Tennessee. The Great Smoky Mountains rise all around, soft and blue.
Aunt Rosa parks at a lookout. "Before we drive, put your fingers on the home row," she says. "That is where they rest, like a van in its parking spot."
Sam spots a deer between the trees.
Biscuit wags his tail. The Heartland trip has begun.
