Chapter 1Front Steps
It is Monday morning, and Sam is starting at a brand new school. She holds her backpack straps tight.
At the front steps, a teacher with a big smile waves. "I am Ms. Ada," she says. "Welcome to Sunny Lane School."
"Let's start with the home row," says Ms. Ada. "Every morning you come back to school, and your fingers come back home."
The bell rings, and the big doors open.
Sam takes a deep breath and walks inside with Ms. Ada.
Chapter 2Room 12
Room 12 has tall shelves, bright posters and a big sunny window.
Sam hangs her backpack on a high hook. "Reach up to the top row," says Ms. Ada, "then come back home."
On the windowsill sits a jar with a green chrysalis, dotted with gold.
"That is Goldie," says Ms. Ada. "Any day now, a butterfly will come out."
