Chapter 1The Gym

Sam has just joined the Otters, the town's basketball team for kids. The gym floor shines, and balls bounce everywhere.

Coach Dani blows her whistle. "Welcome, Sam," she says. "Every play starts from a ready spot."

"Put your fingers on the home row," says Coach Dani. "That is their ready spot, just like your feet on the court."

Sam meets the team: Omar, Rosa, Kai and more.

Omar tosses Sam a ball and grins. "Glad you're here," he says.

Chapter 2Shooting Practice

Next comes shooting practice, and the hoop looks very high.

"Reach up to the top row, like your arms reaching up to shoot," says Coach Dani. "Then come back home."

After many tries, Sam's shot swishes right through the net.

The whole team claps.
