Chapter 1The Campsite
It is a sunny Friday afternoon. Mia, Uncle Rafa and Kiko the dog arrive at a campsite by Pine Lake.
Uncle Rafa smiles. "If we are lucky, we will see the loons this weekend."
Ranger Jo waves hello. "First, put your fingers on the home row," she says. "That is their campsite, just like this spot is yours."
The tent is up and the sleeping bags are inside.
Kiko sniffs every corner of the tent, then lies down. He likes it.
Chapter 2The Dock
A wooden dock reaches out over the calm water. A canoe is tied at the end.
Everyone puts on a life jacket first. "Reach up to the top row," says Ranger Jo, "then come back home."
Out on the water, a black and white bird dives under. "A loon," says Ranger Jo. "It dives to catch fish."
Mia waits and waits. The loon pops up far away.
