Why learning in your family's language helps

Students learn best when they understand the words. Research on bilingual learners points the same way.

What you get in each language

Not machine translations: each language is written for the student who reads it. The Spanish is neutral Latin American, and the Portuguese is Brazilian.

How bilingual families use it

One membership opens every lesson for up to 10 students at home. Every subject workbook is in all three languages, and more lessons are added in Spanish and Portuguese all the time.

  • Switch the lesson language any time

In the lesson library, pick English, Spanish or Portuguese for the lessons. The site menus can stay in another language.

  • Parent teaches in Spanish or Portuguese

Read the lesson in the language you are most comfortable in. Then your student practices the same topic in English.

  • Two languages side by side

Every subject workbook comes in each language with the same topics in the same order, so you can print two editions and compare page by page.

  • Learn a new language

World Languages lessons and flashcards teach Spanish and Portuguese for kids, and English for Spanish and Portuguese speakers. See the topics

Nothing here asks for a card. Each one comes in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Questions from bilingual families

Is this a full curriculum or only language lessons?
A full curriculum. Nine subjects, K–8: math, reading, English and writing, science, history and social studies, world languages, life skills, entrepreneurship and psychology for children. Every subject comes in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and every topic is matched to a US academic standard.
Can I teach if I am more comfortable in Spanish or Portuguese than in English?
Yes. Open the lesson in your language: it tells you what to say, step by step, and the answer key explains every answer. Your student can then practice the same topic in English, or stay in Spanish or Portuguese.
Will two languages confuse my student or slow down English?
Research says no. A national report found no evidence that using two languages confuses young learners or holds back either language, and students who become strong in both are likely to benefit. Reading and math skills learned in one language also carry over to the other.
Is the Spanish or Portuguese a machine translation?
No. Each language is written for the student who will read it. The Spanish is neutral Latin American Spanish, not tied to one country, and the Portuguese is Brazilian Portuguese.
Can we switch languages in the middle of a topic?
Yes. In the lesson library you choose the lesson language, and you can change it at any time. If a lesson is not translated yet, it shows in English and says so. Workbooks are printable PDFs with one language in each book, so for side by side you print both editions.
What can we try for free?
A free lesson in every subject (free account, no card), a free sample of every workbook with its answer key, 10 free cards in every flashcard deck, one free adventure in each learning game, and the free Foundation Assessment in math, reading and English level. All in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
