How to make printable flashcards online

  1. Name your deck

Give it a short name you will recognize, like “Spanish animals” or “Grade 3 science words”.

  2. Add cards

Type the front and the back. Quick add moves you to the next card with Enter, and “Paste a list” adds a whole list at once.

  3. Pick a look

Choose a color or plain black and white. Turn on “Study back side first” to practice the other way around.

Then save your deck, practice it, print it or download it.

Made to fix what people dislike about other flashcard apps

Printable flashcard maker: fold or double-sided

Fold layout (the default): each card prints with its front and back side by side. Cut on the dashed lines and fold on the middle line, and the back is always behind the right front. No double-sided printing needed.

Double-sided layout: fronts print on one page and backs on the next, lined up for printers that print on both sides. In the print window, choose “Flip on long edge”, and print one sheet first to check.

Every card has a small UpOnly Learning mark at the bottom, on screen, on paper and in the PDF, in color or in black and white.

Questions about the flashcard maker

Is it really free?

Yes. The flashcard maker is free with a free UpOnly Learning account and a verified email. A free account can make 3 decks of up to 30 cards each, and practice, shuffle, learn mode, printing and downloads cost nothing. There are no daily limits on practice and no ads. Members (One Step, Monthly, Yearly, Lifetime or a group plan) can keep up to 50 of their own decks of 200 cards.

Who can see my cards?

Only you. Your decks are saved to your account, and only your signed-in account can open them. There is no public library of cards made by other people, so you never see sets from strangers.

How do I print double-sided cards?

The simplest way needs no double-sided printing: choose the fold layout, print, cut on the dashed lines and fold each card on the middle line. If your printer prints on both sides, choose the double-sided layout and, in the print window, pick “Flip on long edge”. Print one sheet first to check that the backs line up.

Can I make flashcards in any language?

Yes. Type your cards in any language your keyboard can write, including languages that read right to left. The buttons and help in the maker are in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Pictures on cards are not available yet.

How many cards can I make?

A free account can make 3 decks in all, each with up to 30 cards; deleting a deck does not free a spot. Members can keep up to 50 of their own decks, each with up to 200 cards. Each side of a card can have up to 300 characters.

How do I add a lot of cards fast?

Use quick add: type the front, press Tab, type the back and press Enter for the next card. Or use “Paste a list”: one card per line, with the front and the back separated by a tab, a comma or a dash with spaces. You see a preview before anything is added.

Can I download my cards?

Yes. Every deck downloads as a PDF to print and as a spreadsheet (CSV) that opens in any spreadsheet app, so your cards are always yours.
