Key words

  • word — a group of letters that means something; we leave a space on each side of it
  • space — the empty gap between words
  • sentence — a group of words that tells a whole idea and ends with a mark like a period
  • uppercase — a big letter, like the B at the start of Ben
  • lowercase — a small letter, like the b in bed

What you need at home: the passage below written large on paper, one sentence per line; a favorite picture book from home; a pencil or a craft stick for pointing; index cards or paper squares with letters written on them (uppercase on some, matching lowercase on others).
