Your first session

  1. Run the placement test together

    Choose math, reading or English level. The questions adapt as the student answers, and "I don't know" is never counted wrong. Allow about 15 to 20 minutes a subject.

  2. Send the results to the parent

    At the end, enter the parent's email to see the results. The parent gets the results and the skill map. For a student under 13, it must be a parent's or guardian's email.

  3. Read the map together

    Each skill shows as mastered, working on it, not started or needs extra attention, with the first skills to work on.

  4. Plan the next sessions

    Print the free practice for that grade and subject, or teach the full lessons with a group plan.

The placement test, the practice sheets and the lessons come in English, Spanish and Portuguese. A parent who is still learning English can read the results and help at home.

Questions from tutors

Is the placement test really free?
Yes. The Foundation Assessment is free for everyone, with no card. At the end, you enter an email to see the results.
Who gets the results?
The email entered at the end. For a student under 13, it must be a parent's or guardian's email. We suggest the parent's email for every student, so the family keeps the results.
Should a parent be there?
For students under 18, we ask that a parent or guardian be nearby during the placement test. A first session with the parent there is a good time for it.
Is it a diagnosis?
No. It is a starting point for learning. It is not a school grade and not a medical or psychological evaluation.
How long does it take?
About 15 to 20 minutes a subject.
Can I use the free practice sheets with my students?
Yes. Print and photocopy them for the students you teach. Please do not post them online or sell them.
Can I use a household membership with my tutoring students?
No. A membership covers one household. For students from more than one family, ask for a group plan.
Does it work for English learners?
Yes. The English level check is for students whose first language is Spanish or Portuguese, and the instructions are in their language. It is our estimate, not an official score.
