P6 math syllabus at a glance

Singapore's Ministry of Education (MOE) sets one primary mathematics syllabus for Primary 1 to Primary 6 and groups its content into strands. The table groups our 8 Primary 6 topics the same way, so you can see the whole P6 math syllabus in one place: what a student covers in number and algebra, measurement, geometry and statistics. The topic codes (P6 N1, P6 M1 and so on) are ours.

StrandTopicsWhat a P6 student learns
Number and algebra3Algebra: algebraic expressions; simple linear equations; Fractions division: divide fractions by whole numbers and fractions; Ratio and percentage: changing ratios; percentage change
Measurement2Circles: area and circumference; semicircles and quarter circles; Volume of solids and liquids: find unknown dimensions
Geometry2Special quadrilaterals and angles: find unknown angles in figures; Nets: nets of solids
Statistics1Pie charts: read and interpret pie charts

Students in Singapore sit the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) at the end of Primary 6. This page lists what we teach in the year; it is not an exam guide, and the MOE publishes the official syllabus and exam format.

What one lesson contains

Every topic in every subject follows the same five steps, then an answer key. Nothing changes between subjects, so a student always knows what comes next.

  1. Quick CheckQuestions before you teach, to show what the student already knows. A high score means you can move faster.
  2. Learn ItKey words, step-by-step teaching with lines you can read aloud, worked examples, and the mistakes to watch for.
  3. We Do It TogetherQuestions you work through side by side. The answer and the reason it is the answer are printed right after each question.
  4. You TryThe student works alone. Do a page a day, or as many as the student needs.
  5. Show What You KnowNew questions at the end. Compare the score with the Quick Check to see the change.
  6. Answer KeyEvery question has its answer and a short explanation, at the end of each topic, so a student can work without peeking.
