Parent notes for Friday

Not a test. Notice what your learner does this week, and practice the rest later. Nothing here is sent to UpOnly Learning.

  • Gives you 3 when asked
  • Tells 2 parts of the day in order
  • Walks along a line

Safety for this week

  • Use objects too big to fit in your learner's mouth, and stay close during any counting or sorting with real objects.
  • Water play only with an adult within arm's reach the whole time, even in a small tub.
  • An adult handles anything hot or sharp, knives, and rocks or heavy objects.
  • Dry beans and seeds only with an adult watching closely, and not with a learner who still puts things in their mouth.
  • No scissors needed: tear paper instead. If you do use scissors, use child safety scissors with an adult right there.
  • Choose crayons, markers and paint labeled for young learners (look for the AP seal).

Questions parents ask

How do I help my 3 year old with new places?

Talk about the place before you go, play pretend at home, read a book about it, and keep a goodbye routine short and warm. Feeling unsure is normal; stay calm and name the feeling.

Is my 3 year old ready for preschool?

Many 3 year olds are ready for a few hours of preschool if they can say their needs, use the toilet with some help and play near other students. Every student is different. Talk with the program and your pediatrician if you are unsure.

When is my learner ready for Pre-K 4?

Usually around age 4, when your learner names a few colors and talks in sentences of 4 or more words. The 3-question picker on the Pre-K page helps you choose. There is no test, and you can switch any time.

What does a preschool day at home look like for a 3 year old?

Short and mostly play: one or two 5 to 10 minute activities, a read-aloud, the song of the week, meals and naps, and lots of time to move and play outside. Pre-K 3 gives you one plan for each day of the week.
