Letters I know

Say: "Name each picture. What sound does it start with?" Your learner names each picture and says its first sound. Color the ones your learner knows quickly, and circle the ones to practice.

No supplies swap. No printer? Play "I spy" with first sounds around the house.

Count it all

Say: "Count each row and color the dots." Your learner counts each group and colors the same number of dots. Then count all the pictures on the page together.

No supplies swap. No printer? Count toys into a box, up to 20.

All the lines

Say: "Straight, wavy, zigzag. Start at the green dot." Your learner traces a straight line, a wavy line and a zigzag line.

No supplies swap. No printer? Make the three lines with string or a finger in flour.

Me in kindergarten

Say: "Draw yourself going to kindergarten. What will you take? Who will you meet?" Your learner draws in the frame. Write their words under the picture, and keep it for the first day of school.

No supplies swap. No printer? Draw on any paper or with chalk outside, and tell the story out loud.

Sound hunt review

10 minutes · You need: Nothing, or a basket

  1. Pick 3 letters from this year.
  2. Find something in the house that starts with each one.
  3. Your learner says the sound and the letter name.

Next step: Find something for 5 letters.

Say this: "B, b, book. Book starts with b."

No supplies: Play "I spy" from one spot in the room.

Literacy: phonological awareness

Count to 20 parade

5 minutes · You need: Space to move, a spoon and a pot for a drum (optional)

  1. March around the room and count each step out loud.
  2. Tap the drum on every number.
  3. Stop with a big cheer at 20.

Easier: Count to 10 and stop.

Kindergarten, I'll be there.

Parent notes for Friday

Not a test. Notice what your learner does this week, and practice the rest later. Nothing here is sent to UpOnly Learning.

  • Counts to 20
  • Draws a person with a body, arms and legs
  • Talks about starting kindergarten

Want the bigger picture? Use the free kindergarten readiness checklist.

Safety for this week

  • Use objects too big to fit in your learner's mouth, and stay close during any counting with real objects.
  • Child-size scissors only, with an adult watching. Hand scissors over handle first.
  • Choose crayons, markers and paint labeled for young learners (look for the AP seal).
  • Adults handle anything hot or sharp.

Questions parents ask

Is my child ready for kindergarten?

Use the free kindergarten readiness checklist on UpOnly Learning. For each skill you choose "I've seen it", "Not yet" or "Not sure", and get a list of what to practice. It is not a test. Many skills keep growing in kindergarten, so not yet is fine.

What should we do over the summer before kindergarten?

Keep it light: read together every day, count things you see, play letter sound games and practice routines like packing a bag. Repeat favorite weeks from this year. Short, playful practice keeps skills fresh without feeling like school all summer.

Can we repeat Pre-K 4 weeks?

Yes. Every week stays free, so you can go back to any letter, number or science activity. Use the parent notes pages to pick the weeks that need more practice. Repeating a favorite week is a fun way to end the year.

What supplies do I need for week 36?

Paper, crayons, a few drawings from this year and, if you like, a spoon and a pot for a drum. Every activity card also has a no-supplies swap, so you can start with what you already have at home. Print in black and white to save ink.
