My Feelings Have Names
The student will name the feelings happy, sad, mad, scared and calm, tell what each can feel like in the body, and say a feeling sentence. · 40 min
“Our faces and bodies can show our feelings. Today we will learn the names of five feelings.”
Rosa's tower of blocks gets knocked over by her little brother. Her face gets hot and her hands make fists. What feeling might she have?
Answer: Mad. A hot face and tight fists are body clues for feeling mad. She could say, 'I feel mad because my tower fell.'
Some feelings, like mad or sad, are bad and I should not have them.
Explain that all feelings are OK, and everyone has them. Feelings are not good or bad; what we do with them matters, like using words or asking for a hug.
Name your own feelings out loud during the day ('I feel frustrated because the car will not start, so I am taking a deep breath'). Children learn feeling words best by hearing grown-ups use them calmly.
That is one topic of many. The free questions above check a skill; this is the part that teaches it.
